Students, and staff members at Lumberton Jr. High School are honoring 13-year-old Hania Aguilar by wearing purple.
“Hania will always be part of our vikiing family,” said Lumberton Jr. High School principal Dr. Savon Maultsby during a press conference on Thursday.
On Tuesday, around 4:45 p.m., authorities found the body where crews were searching for Hania Aguilar. The Lumberton Police Department officers and FBI found the body off Wire Grass Road.
“The wonderful memories of Hania, loving smile, her laughter, funny conversation, kind acts, and fun times will not be taken away by this senseless act of violence,” said Dr. Maultsby.
The Lumberton Jr. High School has placed posters, written notes, drawings, and her academic accomplishments all over the school to remember Hania.
“We will continue to support her family, friends, community in the next days, weeks and months to come,” said Public Schools of Robeson County’s superintendent, Dr. Shanita Wooten
During Thursday’s press conference the principal declared that Friday would be ‘Wear Purple for Hania Day’.
“Staff members and students will always remember Hania and will forever remain Viking strong,” said math teacher Kelvin Barnes.
The Robeson County school district plans to provide extra grief counselors to support the staff at Lumberton Jr. High.
“We will come together. We will try to recover and will continue to provide support to make sure our students know they are always in a safe place in the Public Schools of Robeson County,” said Dr. Wooten.
