A Lumberton police officer who died after being hit by a car will be laid to rest on Thursday.
A funeral for Officer Jason Quick will be held at 2 p.m. at the Rock Church of God, located at 2209 West Carthage Road in Lumberton, according to a press release from Captain Terry W. Parker, with the Lumberton Police Department. A graveside service will follow at the Gardens of Faith, located at 5190 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton.
A visitation for Officer Quick was held on Wednesday evening at the Rock Church of God.
News13 estimates there were 200 people in attendance at Wednesday’s visitation. LPD Police Chief Michael McNeill described Officer Quick as ‘dedicated’, ‘sharp with a good demeanor about him’ and ‘a big teddy bear’.
Officer Quick died after being hit by a car on I-95 on Saturday morning. He was investigating a crash on the I-95 Northbound lane near exit 22.
According to Sgt. Michael Baker with the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Officer Quick was attempting to walk across the northbound lanes and was struck by a passing 2017 Hyundai.
Quick was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he died. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
News13 also learned that Officer Quick was on his day off when he was struck by the car. We’re told his squad was short-handed that day, so he went into work to help.
