Surfside Beach Pharmacy hosted “A Child’s Wonderful Wish” event on Friday.
The event brought together the community to help a family that has a child with special needs. This years event honored the Sacra family, from Surfside Beach. Their son TJ Sacra has a peroxisomal disorder.
According to the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders, the diseases are rare, genetic, terminal conditions that affect all major organ systems of the body.
“We want to raise awareness because it’s very isolating to have a rare disease.” Said TJ’s mother Katie Cacra. “There’s over 7,000 rare diseases out there, and we’re just one of them. So, if we can raise awareness for his disease and all rare diseases, then we’re accomplishing something today”
TJ’s father is a local firefighter in Surfside Beach. The event also featured Santa Claus, cookies, light snacks, a fire truck, and drawings.
