ATLANTA (AP) – Civic leaders, activists and others are celebrating, marching and paying tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday’s 30th federal holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader.

Civil rights leaders in South Carolina plan to hold their annual march Monday to their capitol that in past years became a rally to remove the Confederate flag from Statehouse grounds. With that accomplished, the state NAACP says this year’s march will highlight calls for more money for education. And three major Democratic candidates are set to appear: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley.

At the King Center in Atlanta, weeklong events are to be capped by a tribute at Ebenezer Baptist Church under the theme: “Remember! Celebrate! Act! King’s Legacy of Freedom for Our World.”

King’s legacy also will be celebrated at New York’s state Capitol complex. In Minneapolis, activists with the group Black Lives Matter planned to march onto a Mississippi River bridge that connects Minneapolis and St. Paul during a Martin Luther King Day rally.
