CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Christmas Eve is the last day to donate to the Salvation Army bell ringers stationed outside of local stores.

The Salvation Army is asking people to give, especially since they say they are behind on donations compared to years past.

According to the Horry County chapter, they were providing disaster relief after Hurricane Florence around the same time they would normally prepare for their Christmas fundraiser.

The Salvation Army Corps Officer, David Repass says they may not raise as much money this year as they have before, however, it won’t have a major impact on the resources they provide, as long as people continue to give throughout the year.

“When we’re able to receive more dollars here at Christmas, it means we’re able to provide more services, and folks will come along side maybe later on and help us,” Repass said.

While the Salvation Army says Hurricane Florence disaster relief delayed their preparations, which may have in turn affected how much money they raised through their bell ringing this year, it also helped their efforts in a way.

“People do see what we were doing, the Salvation Army, after the hurricane and flooding, and people responded,” Repass said.

He says their efforts in the community after Hurricane Florence encouraged neighbors to volunteer and donate more.
