MARION, SC (WBTW) – South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a crash that killed a bicyclist in Marion County Monday night.
According to the troopers, the crash occurred at 6:05 p.m. Monday on Old Nichols Highway. Corporal Sonny Collins said a bicyclist was traveling east on Old Nichols Highway, about two miles east of Mullins, around 6:05 p.m. when the cyclist was hit by a pick-up truck.
Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson identified the man on the bicycle as 51-year-old Andre Paige of Nichols.
Cpl. Collins confirms a 2001 Chevy pick-up truck was also traveling east on Old Nichols Highway when the driver hit, and killed the bicyclist. No charges will be filed against the pick-up truck driver as the bicycle did not have any lights or reflectors, adds Cpl. Collins.
The crash remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol.
