MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- Representatives from Livingston Racing (North Myrtle Beach Drag Strip) and Carolina Knight Riders are working on a business plan to re-brand Atlantic Beach Bike Fest.
Cathy Gore made a presentation to the Myrtle Beach Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee requesting around $300,000 for the campaign. Gore says the goal is to make the event unified and create a more organized weekend.
The groups want to shift the name from Black Bike Fest to Memorial Day Weekend Unity Bikefest.
Gore says the weekend has received a bad rap and she’s hoping by getting the NMB Drag Strip involved it would provide a place to accommodate entertainment and racing. In addition, Gore says this would divert traffic from Highway 17 to alleviate congestion.
Holding a concert on the Grand Strand is among the list of things Gore says she would like to see during the weekend.
Gore says the request for money didn’t make progress with the committee but she will now work with sponsors and reach out to North Myrtle Beach leaders for support.
