FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The Florence County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate was found unresponsive early Thursday morning at the county detention center.
A release from Major Michael Nunn with the sheriffs office states detention center employees immediately contacted EMS, which transported the inmate to an area hospital where the man was pronounced dead.
The coroner has not yet released how the person died, but has identified the inmate as 61-year-old Erskine McClam of Lake City.
The Florence County Sheriff’s Office has requested SLED conduct an investigation into the person’s death.
