KINGSTREE, SC (WBTW) – The Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office is leading a murder investigation that happened Saturday night in Kingstree.
Deputies say around 7:01 p.m., they responded to a shooting incident that occurred on Hemingway Highway. Upon arrival, deputies say they discovered the victim, George Goethe Mixon III, 30, lying on the floor in the living room with a gunshot wound to his chest.
According to investigators, Mixon was having an argument with his mother, Phyllis E. Owens, inside the home that led to a gun being discharged. Mixon was transported to an area hospital, but died before his arrival.
Phyllis E. Owens, 65, was arrested and charged by the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office with murder to include possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Investigator Alex Edwards with the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office, says Owens was denied bond in her hearing Monday morning at 9:00 am. Owens is scheduled to appear before the circuit court judge on February 22, adds Edwards.
