MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The StormTracker13 Weather Team is keeping an eye on a storm that’s bringing moderate to heavy rain for most on Sunday, and even a wintry mix for some spots inland.
We’re getting wrap-around moisture from a low-pressure system offshore that’s quickly moving northeast. The center of the system will stay offshore as it passes us by later today, but we could see 1-3 inches of rainfall along the coast and with our temperatures being so cold (especially the further inland you go) we’re tracking some spots seeing a wintry mix this morning.
Temperatures didn’t drop quite as low as models had been indicating, so the potential for snow flurries and wintry precip accumulation has decreased significantly. We’re now expecting, at most, a dusting to the west of I-95. East of I-95 will see mainly rain, and rainfall totals will be in the 1-3″ range with higher amounts at the coast. Wet snow may mix in with rain at times. Anything wintry will transition gradually to all rain as temperatures warm up today.
Flooding is a concern given that we already saw 2-4 inches of rain earlier this week. Horry and Georgetown counties are under a Flood Watch through later this evening. The storm system offshore is also producing strong winds, and a Wind Advisory is in effect through 10 this evening. We could see winds up to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph along the coast. Because the grounds are already saturated we could see some weak trees blown down so be mindful of the winds and the rain if you’re heading out the door today.
The StormTracker13 Weather Team will continue to keep you covered on this storm throughout the weekend.
