MYRTLE BEACH (WBTW) – South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) maintenance forces will be removing the median crossover to improve safety on the 17 Bypass at Shetland Drive in Horry County starting Monday.

Shetland Drive is located on the east side of the Bypass, just south of Myrtle Beach International Airport, between the Farrow Parkway and Harrelson Boulevard interchanges.

Motorists on Shetland Drive desiring to go south on 17 Bypass should use Shetland Drive to Fred Nash to Farrow Parkway. Southbound Bypass motorists desiring to access Shetland Drive should continue south past Shetland Drive and make a U-turn under the new interchange to come back northbound to Shetland Drive.

Once the median is removed, access to/from 17 Bypass will be right in/right out only. The median is being removed to improve safety in this area.

Currently, there are temporary barricades at the site. This work will make the changes permanent.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling in the work zone to protect themselves and highway workers.
