FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The Darlington Raceway celebrated the start of the NASCAR season by hosting its fifth annual community watch party Sunday afternoon at Buffalo Wild Wings in Florence during the Daytona 500.

Fans who attended had the chance to win tickets, pit passes and pre-race ceremony wristbands, along with other prizes and giveaways.

Organizers say the event attracted a lot of race fans in both Florence and Darlington because of the community impact of the Darlington Raceway.

“We kick the season off with the Daytona 500. It gets everybody really  excited and that’s why I think this event is so successful. People really enjoy the kick off and the Daytona is really the Super Bowl of our sport,” said Darlington Raceway spokesperson Dennis Worden.

The tradition continues on Labor Day weekend as the NASCAR Sprint cup series Bojangles’ Southern 500 is set for Sunday September 4th.
