Clarkson’s song, “Piece by Piece,” moved the show’s judges to tears, along with many others in the audience. The song is an emotional rendition of Clarkson’s turbulent relationship with her father and a work of praise to her husband, Brandon Blackstock.
The expecting 33-year-old became overcome with emotion herself while performing the song, and laughed with host Ryan Seacrest after the performance saying she’s “super pregnant and hormonal.”
Clarkson, winner of “American Idol” season one in 2002, told the audience she wrote the song while pregnant with her daughter River Rose, who was born in June 2014. The singer is now pregnant with her second child, a boy.
“American Idol” is now in its final season.
