A series of suspicious house fires at homes in Dillon County has the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office investigating.
Capt. Cliff Arnette with the sheriff’s office confirmed the fires have happened at abandoned homes, but did not provide additional details.
Latta Police Chief Derrick Cartwright told News13 that his understanding was there was a fire at a vacant home in city limits recently. He says it happened last Friday night around 9:30 p.m. on East Leitner Street, at the corner of Munn Street.
Chief Cartwright tells us the vacant home had no power to it. He confirmed this fire appeared to be suspicious. He says a neighboring vacant house was also damaged by the fire.
Police ask anyone who lives in the area, who may have video surveillance, to check their cameras from around 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to see if they can spot anyone in the area. Chief Cartwright tells News13 this is an active investigation.
