Darlington County deputies are investigating an attempted armed robbery at a convenience store.

According to a press release from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are currently investigating an attempted armed robbery at the Markette Convenience store located at 1700 N. Fifth Street in Hartsville. 

“A white male entered the store around 1 p.m., brandished a knife and demanded money from the clerk,” the release says. “The male had dark hair, glasses and a red bandanna around his neck. During the encounter, the clerk refused to give the male money. The male eventually fled the store on foot.”

Investigators released a portion of video from the incident and asked for the public’s help to identify the suspect. 

Around 4:10 p.m. on Tuesday, DCSO Lt. Robert Kilgo said in a release that “patrol deputies were able to locate a suspect in the area of Patrick Hwy. and Ousleydale Rd.”
