Surfside Beach Police say that they caught a teen and a man after they broke into a pizza shop and stole some items early Tuesday.

On Tuesday at approximately 3 am Surfside Beach Police Officers responded to LAZERS Pizza at 1450 Hwy 17 North for an activated business alarm.

“Upon arrival officers observed a suspicious vehicle leaving the area with items in the trunk of the car,” said Chief Rodney Keziah, Surfside Beach Police Chief.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Hwy 17 Business and identified the occupants, police said.

“The items in the trunk were positively identified by the business owner as stolen during a burglary at the business that had just occurred,” police said.

Chief Keziah said that the pair had taken tools and maintenance equipment from a storage room in the rear of the pizza shop.

Michael David Stanley, age 44,  and Marcelus Bethea, age 17, both of Myrtle Beach, were both arrested on site, Chief Keziah said.

Both have been charged with burglary 2nd degree, criminal conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools.

“I commend these officers for their dedication and sound patrol tactics that led to this arrest,” Chief Rodney Keziah said. “It is always a great day when the suspects are arrested, and all of the stolen property is returned to the business owner before sunrise”.
