COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – A winter storm brought light snow and freezing rain to South Carolina, leaving thousands without power and closing some schools.
The National Weather Service had a winter weather advisory in effect until noon in northeastern South Carolina. An ice storm warning and freezing rain advisory in the midlands expired at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Schools were closed or delayed across much of the state.
Duke Energy reported more than 76,000 people without service Tuesday. The biggest problems were in Anderson and Greenwood counties.
The Laurens Electric Cooperative had more than 4,500 customers without service.
South Carolina Electric & Gas reported about 3,400 customers without service, most in Fairfield County.
The state transportation department reported that all interstates were open and have been plowed. About 600 employees were working on the roads.
