ATHENS, Ga. (AP) – South Carolina coach Frank Martin has suspended sophomore forward Demetrius Henry and freshman guard Shamiek Sheppard for the remainder of the regular season.

The suspensions for unspecified conduct detrimental to the team were announced before Tuesday night’s game at Georgia.

The 6-foot-9 Henry, who is from Miami, has started 19 games and is averaging 6 points and 3.6 rebounds. He missed three games with a concussion.

The 6-foot-6 Sheppard, from Brooklyn, New York, has averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds in seven games.

In a statement released by the team, Martin said the suspensions will be revisited before the Southeastern Conference tournament. Martin says the two players failed to meet “expectations and responsibilities” required “on an everyday basis.”
