NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – South Carolina would love nothing more than to add to its growing resume than by winning its first Southeastern Conference tournament championship this week.
The No. 3 Gamecocks (27-2) enter the tournament, which begins Wednesday, having already clinched back-to-back regular-season league championships.
However, they must overcome a field that features five ranked teams and includes second-seeded Tennessee – which has won the tournament 17 times in 35 years, including seven of the last 10.
The Lady Vols (25-4) lost at South Carolina two weeks ago, but – like the Gamecocks – they are hopeful of earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a strong showing this week.
