Students from seven Florence One schools (Briggs Elementary, Delmae Elementary, Dewey Carter Elementary, Moore Intermediate, North Vista Elementary, Royall Elementary and Timrod Elementary) competed in the Florence School District One Battle of the Books Competition recently held at North Vista Elementary School.
Royall Elementary won first place. Members of the team from Royall are: Kate Sansbury (captain), Elka Hartley, Emily Llewellyn, Harris Naqvi, Carsyn Ridgeway, Caroline Shealy, and Faith Ward. Media Specialist Susan Jenkins coaches the team.
Timrod Elementary came in second place. Members of the Timrod team are: Joshua Anyim, Ryein Bennett, Doron Bennett, Kesiah Harrison, McKinley Hill, Jacob Jarrell, LeeAnn Parker, and Jadyn Williams. Media Specialist Kelli Becote coaches the team.
After having read from the books on the Battle of the Books Award list, students answered questions relative to their readings in a quiz- bowl type setting. America’s Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students with the purpose of encouraging them to read good books and have fun while competing with peers.
