BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. – Investigators in Buncombe County say they have the bodies believed to be that of the missing couple who were murdered.

Officials tell us they performed external autopsies on Cristie Schoen Codd, 38, and Joseph “JT” Codd, 45, Wednesday, but would not give any further details of what they found. The bodies are now in Winston-Salem for further autopsies at Wake Forest. They say this is typical procedure.

Robert Jason Owens, 36, faces several charges in the case. They include two counts of first degree murder, murder of an unborn child, breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering in the case.

Authorities say the couple, who have ties to Hollywood, was reporting missing by family members on Sunday. Owens was arrested on Monday and is being held without bond at the Buncombe County Detention Center.

According to arrest warrants, Owens killed the couple and their unborn child on Thursday.

The warrants go on to say Owens broke into the Codd’s home on Hookers Gap Road in Leicester and stole a laptop, jewelry and a gun on Sunday.

A motive has not yet been identified.

Cristie was a contestant on Season 8 of the Next Food Network Star and provides catering services on film sets. Joseph worked behind the scenes on TV and movie sets.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office confirms that Owens was once considered a suspect in the 2000 disappearance of Zebb Quinn. Quinn was 18 when he disappeared. The case is under investigation by the Asheville Police Department.

Quinn’s mother released a statement Thursday, saying:

“Like everyone else in the community, our family is horrified by what has happened. Our hearts go out to the families of the Codd couple. The fact that Jason Owens has been charged with their murders surprises us, yet it doesn’t. Jason was, and still is, a person of interest in the disappearance of my son, Zebb Quinn, on Jan 2, 2000. We feel Jason’s criminal record speaks for itself. We want to remind everyone that Jason’s arrest has nothing to do with Zebbs case, and that as of now, there is no new information concerning Zebb that we are aware of. We are hopeful that if anyone has any information concerning Zebb’s whereabouts and/or disappearance, they will now come forward. All information will be treated confidentially. There is currently a $25,000 reward for any information that leads to Zebb’s location. We would like to ask the public to please not overshadow this couples heartbreaking investigation with statements, posts, and questions about Zebb…….(Information about Zebb’s case should be directed to Private Investigator Yvonne Cobourn @ 828-216-4496 OR Det. Kevin Taylor with APD @ 828-259-5945) We acknowledge and appreciate the abundant support we have always received from our friends and community and trust you will all give the Codd/Schoen families the same gift. Media requests, phone calls, and such are coming from all directions- locally and nationally and becoming overwhelming. We also ask that our family and family business be allowed our privacy from media attempts as we also wait for the investigation to unfold. Denise Vlahakis”
