RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN/WBTW) – The North Carolina State Highway patrolman shot in the line of duty on Monday in Wilson County is now at home, officials confirmed to News13’s sister station CBS 17.
Trooper Daniel C. Harrell was shot in the face and neck during a traffic stop on Haynes Road in Wilson County, authorities say.
Harrell was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for treatment following the shooting.
An extensive manhunt was underway after Harrell was shot as law enforcement searched for three suspects.
Harrell’s white cruiser appeared to have 12 bullet holes in the windshield and front-end damage.
He’s a five-year veteran assigned to Wilson County.
The Highway Patrol confirmed Harrell was released from the hopsital Wednesday.
Photos posted to Facebook by the North Carolina Troopers Association show Harrell being helped into a cruiser at the hospital.
His family has asked for privacy.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting.
