FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Authorities have confirmed that a rabid fox has bitten a child at a Fayetteville elementary school.

Local media outlets report that an 8-year-old boy was playing outside E.E. Miller Elementary school on Friday afternoon when a fox jumped over a fence and bit him.

No other children were attacked, and the boy was taken to a hospital. Animal control officers captured the fox and had it sent off for testing, which confirmed the case of rabies.

Officials say the boy is being treated. This is the fourth case of rabies in Cumberland County this year.
