Starting in July, the Myrtle Beach Fire Department has hosted and trained seven firefighters from Saudia Arabia, and now those firefighters prepare to head back home. 

The hand-picked Saudi firefighters are highly educated and experiencied with Saudi Aramco, an oil and gas company.

“We get more experience from the guys here they know more about the residential fires and we have more experience in refinery, and and oil and gas plant.” said Saudi Firefighter, Yousef Alkathiri. 

Lt. Evans with Myrtle Beach Fire says their department was chosen over much larger departments for this special program, and they feel honored to of been chosen. 

“It’s a great honor to have them out here and I think we learned from them as much as they learned from us so hopefully we get chosen again.” Evans said. 

The group also experienced Hurricane Florence when it made landfall in the Carolina’s.

“Facing the people around me I saw all the people scared and I said woah something is wrong why is everyone scared and we started helping them and we didn’t show them we were scared.” said Alkathiri.
