CHEROKEE COUNTY, SC. – The Cherokee County Humane Society says a family walking along Ferry Road found a puppy in the woods whining and unable to move.

Sunday night, Humane Society leaders tracked down the dog they now call Marshall.

“He had a cord around his neck and around all four of his paws tightly bound together so he couldn’t possibly get up and move,” said Humane Society Director Judy Wyles.

The tight cord left Marshall with swollen joints and barely able to walk. He had developed sores. And he contracted parasites, ticks and heartworms. Wyles says the puppy also has signs of neglect and abuse.

“He’s severely underweight,” said Wyles. “He’s malnourished. He had ticks all over him and lice.”

That’s why the Cherokee County Humane Society is working to find the person responsible. They are offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the person they’re calling extremely dangerous.

“People who abuse animals are deeply disturbed,” said Wyles. “And they are dangerous. They are dangerous to other humans. And they are dangerous to other animals.”

If you have any information on Marshall you can contact the Cherokee County Humane Society on their Facebook page or call 864-219-8150.
