SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. – A Duncan man is under arrest after Spartanburg County deputies say he carjacked a woman at a car wash.

Deputies say Edward Terrick Drummond, 39, walked up to a woman who was cleaning out her SUV and asked for a light for a cigarette at the car wash at 2915 E. Main St. Extension in Spartanburg. We’re told Drummond pushed the woman into the vehicle, but she fought back and escaped around 2:20 p.m. Monday.

Drummond then drove off in the SUV with the victim’s cell phone and purse still inside the vehicle. The SUV was equipped with On Star and investigators tracked it to an Auto Zone store on East Main Street.

Deputies recovered the car, but couldn’t find Drummond.

We’re told he tried to sell the victim’s iPhone later at store on Winchester Place. Investigators identified Drummond as their suspect and arrested him for armed robbery.

He also faces charges from an unrelated case for petit larceny and receiving stolen goods.

The sheriff’s office says Drummond had an injury to his lip from the fight in the SUV with the victim.
