CONWAY – Matt Crohan struck out 12 batters as Winthrop beat Coastal Carolina 3-0 to avoid a series sweep Sunday.

The loss ended an 11-game winning streak for the Chanticleers (20-7, 5-1 Big South).

Crohan didn’t surrender a hit until the sixth inning and gave up just two in eight innings of work. Travis Shelley came on in the ninth and gave up no runs on one hit to earn the save. Anthony Marks had the only two hits of the day for Coastal Carolina.

Roger Gonzalez and Tyler Asbill each drove in runs for the Eagles (18-10, 2-4). They also scored on a error in the sixth.
