South Carolina senators have passed a bill that would allow school districts to use as many as three snow days this academic year without making them up.
Senators were voting Wednesday on whether schools in Chester County could waive making up two days missed for wintry weather. Sen. Brad Hutto added an amendment that would allow any district in the state to forgive up to three days.
Hutto says he is not a big fan of losing instruction days, especially before standardized testing. But the Orangeburg Democrat says the Senate should not have to take up a separate bill for every district.
Hutto says he hopes there will be more discussion about a permanent change in snow day policy.
The House passed the bill without the amendment for all districts.
