SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. – The SC Highway Patrol and Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office states that one teen is dead and two more are injured after a single car wreck Sunday morning.

Brandon Wade Stites, 17 of Woodruff was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on Trammel Rd in Spartanburg County.

Officials report that the crash happened around 3:14 a.m., and involved three teenagers from Woodruff.

The report claims that the driver of the car Noah Lathern Lambert, 18 ran off the side of the road and struck a tree.

SC Highway Patrol also reports that Lambert has been charged with two counts of felony DUI, one resulting in death and another in great bodily injury.

A toxicology exam and autopsy will be performed on the victim Sunday afternoon.

Several of Stites’ friends and fellow classmates held a candlelight vigil at the scene of the crash Sunday night. Flowers now stand next to the tree where he lost his life.

“He wouldn’t put any blame on anyone else for what’s happened. I don’t feel like anyone else should do that either,” said Molly Crook, about the accident.

Brandon Stites died too soon, just weeks before he was expected to graduate from Woodruff High School. His friends say he will be remembered most for his kindness and his smile.

“He spread his joy. When he smiled, everyone smiled,” said Crook, Stite’s longtime friend.

“He was so easy to love,” Makala Brown, Stite’s close friend. “He was just a loveable person. He could get along with anybody.”

Several of Stites’ friends went to the scene of the accident Sunday to say goodbye and remember the person he was.

“He had a very good heart. He was a very strong person. He would always try to be strong for me. He was always there for me,” said Brown.

Stites had a knack for sports. He ran track for Woodruff High, but his friends say his true love was football. He played wide receiver for the Wolverines his whole high school career.

“I remember one pick he made. He ran all the way down the sidelines and he looked at the crowd and smiled. It was just amazing,” recalled Crook. “Your heart just lights up because you know how much he loves football.”

Spartanburg County District 4 Superintendent Dr. W. Rallie Liston told WSPA his thoughts are with everyone involved: “It’s a tragedy, especially in these smaller communities where people are connected, in so many ways. Our hearts go out to the members of the family and also to our students and teachers and community at large. It’s just a very sad incident. We will pull together and will see it through together.”

Grief counselors will be at Woodruff High School Monday.

The students said they are working with the Woodruff High Football Coach to have another candlelight vigil this week for Stites.
