Friday marked the last day for a fire inspector who has spent nearly three decades serving the City of North Myrtle Beach.
Lt. Edward Hughes started with the department as an entry-level firefighter in September 1989, just a couple of weeks before Hurricane Hugo hit the area causing widespread damage across the Grand Strand.
Hughes worked his way up the department, serving as Battalion Captain for B-Battalion before he transferred to the Fire Marshal Office in 2006.
To commemorate Hughes’ last day, he took one last ride home on Truck 714 with his fellow firefighters. Others congratulated him over the radio during the ride.
