MYRTLE BEACH (WBTW) – After nearly a year of controversy over their operation in the city of Myrtle Beach, Uber drivers will now be allowed to legally operate.
City Spokesperson Mark Kruea confirmed to News13 that anyone who applies for and receives a chauffeur’s permit and a business license can then operate as an Uber driver. Kruea said these business people would not be considered taxi services, but rather a business person that offers a personal service.
Kruea said as of Monday, 12 people had purchased business licenses, and that the city requires a background check for anyone who applies for a chauffeur’s permit.
