Wednesday was Earth Day, and the Montessori School of Florence used the used the eco-conscious event to open its new outdoor classroom.
Parents, teachers and students donated time and money since last October to create the new learning environment.
“Outdoor classrooms have been proven to really bring out the most in children, bring out their best work, it inspires creativity they mostly feel more comfortable in the outdoor setting,” said school director Kathleen Smith. “The change in the environment can really bring a nice change in the classroom.”
After Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, students hosted a tour of the classroom for parents and local officials.
