MT. PLEASANT – No. 20 College of Charleston scored four runs in the third inning and held on to beat Coastal Carolina 8-5 to sweep the season series between the two teams.
The Cougars (29-9) trailed 1-0 before the big inning put them up 4-1. Alex Pastorius and Nick Pappas each homered to lead College of Charleston.
Nathan Helvey (6-3) earned his second win over Coastal Carolina in eight days. He scattered five hits for one run over six innings. Brandon Glazer threw a perfect ninth inning for his first save. Tyler Poole (1-1) took the loss.
Zach Remillard and Tyler Chadwick each went 2-for-3 for the Chanticleers (27-13). Casey Schroeder hit a three-run homer in the eighth to pull Coastal Carolina within 8-5. The Chanticleers have lost four of their last five games.
