Two men were arrested after deputies said they kidnapped a Cumberland County woman they met at a school for the deaf, raped her, robbed her and then ran her over.
Joshua Obrian Horne, 24, of Nashville, N.C., was arrested April 20 on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, conspiracy and common law robbery.
Josue Delvillar, 24, of Raleigh, was arrested April 13 on charged of attempted second-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, conspiracy, common law robbery, and felon hit and run.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Horne and Delvillar picked up the victim from her home on April 7. Investigators said the suspects knew the woman through their mutual attendance at a school for the deaf.
When the woman learned they were leaving the county, deputies said she told the men she wanted to return home. Instead, investigators said the men ignored the woman’s request and took her to Raleigh, where the victim said she was raped by the men.
The sheriff’s office said the woman also reported that the men stole and undisclosed amount of money from her.
Investigators said the men later returned the woman to her home, where she fell out of the vehicle and deputies said the suspects ran over her as they fled the area.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. She was later transferred to the University of North Carolina Medical Center in Chapel Hill for treatment of her injuries.
Delvillar’s brother reacted to the charges on Sunday, telling WNCN News he did not believe the charges against his brother were fair.
“I know that he didn’t kidnap that girl and rape like they’re saying,” Manny Delvillar said. “I know something went down. Something happened, but they need to get both sides of the story …But all that stuff that they’re saying? No, half of it’s not true.”
Horne and Delvillar are being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under $185,000 and $160,000 bonds, respectively.
