CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church celebrated 100 years on Sunday.

Linda Hickman Brown, like many others, grew up going to the Conway church.

“We’ve actually been a part of the church for that long, since we were born, right here in this community,” Brown said. “If it had not been for this church, I’ll tell you I don’t know where I’d be at.”

Brown has watched Mt. Pisgah grow and change over the years.

“We see a lot of growth, and we see a lot of people coming and a lot leaving, but with God we’re able to still stand,” Brown said.

Brown’s sister, Carolyn Hickman Williams says many members that helped establish the church, now senior citizens, still show up every Sunday. While Mt. Pisgah remembers its past, they look to continue the legacy its elderly members created.

“The mother of the church is almost 88-years-old, she’s here; our deacons, they’re 80-years-old, they’re here every Sunday, so it just motivates the younger people to press their way and serve God in spirit and in truth,” Williams said.

The Mayor of Conway, Barbara Blain Bellamy declared the week of Jan.16th a celebratory week in the city for the church.
