MYRTLE BEACH, SC-        Another organization that aims to boost tourism is coming to Myrtle Beach

The Myrtle Beach Black Chamber of Commerce launches Tuesday. Marketing Director David Hucks said the group wants to encourage more minorities to visit.

“We want you here, our businesses want you here,” said Hucks.

According to 2010 U.S. Census data, minorities make up 51% of millennials. Hucks said they’re looking at ways to cater to minority consumers, including family reunions and sports tourism.

Big Mike’s Soul Food Owner, Mike Chestnut said he’s noticed an increasing number of minorities already visiting the beach.

” I’ve seen a lot of more coming down, which is telling me a lot of people are traveling and looking for places to go,” state Chestnut.

While he considers targeting minorities a good business strategy, Chestnut said he doesn’t want to create separation. Hucks agreed and said the group will simply promote attractions and businesses that appeal to certain cultures and heritages.

“We want unity but we should also lift up diversity,” stated Hucks.

Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President Brad Dean said he doesn’t know much about the organization, but welcomes the opportunity for collaboration.

“As a part of our ongoing commitment, we will continue to strategically target new visitors to grow our tourism industry,” said Dean.

Governor Nikki Haley recently posted a YouTube video in support of the Myrtle Beach Black Chamber of Commerce. Hucks said the organization also hopes to grow minority-owned businesses in the area.

The Myrtle Beach Black Chamber of Commerce will host a meet and greet Tuesday at the Father’s House Church at 10 a.m. The organization will launch its website myrtlebeachsouthcarolina.com later this month.
