The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recognized Congressman Tom Rice with an award on Monday. The chamber awarded the U.S. Representative from Horry County with its “Spirit of Enterprise” award. The Republican lawmaker represents South Carolina’s 7th District.
The U.S. Chamber’s award is given annually to members of Congress based on their votes on critical business legislation outlined in the chamber publication, “How They Voted.” Members who supported the chamber’s position on at least 70 percent of those votes qualify to receive the award.
“It’s exactly what I said I was going to do,” Rice said. “When I went to Washington I told my constituents my top three priorities were jobs, jobs, and jobs. This award is evidence of the fact that I’m doing exactly what I said I was going to do.”
The Chamber said Rice’s record showed he voted in agreement with the Chamber’s stance 82 percent of the time in the last Congressional session.
