MYRTLE BEACH, SC-     Hundreds of additional officers will be patrolling the Grand Strand this weekend and that could mean a large number of citations and arrests.

The Myrtle Beach Municipal Court handles a variety of violations from traffic to DUI’s. Currently, the city schedules bond hearings twice a day; however, starting Friday at 6 a.m. bond hearings will be held every six hours. In addition, the Clerk of Court Office will be open 24 hours a day though the weekend.

“Really just to provide better customer service, so that we can respond if we have a large number of people that come through the court system,” said Myrtle Beach spokesperson Mark Kruea.

The changes are especially helpful to out of town visitors who need to pay their fine before leaving. Kruea said their intention is not to arrest or ticket as many people as they can.

“We’d rather not write at ticket at all, we’d rather not give anybody a warning,” he stated.

According to Kruea, the clerk of court used to be open 24 hours ten years ago but the city gradually scaled it back. They decided to open it again temporarily for Memorial Day Weekend because of the sheer size of the event. Kruea said the city is planning ahead and ramping up services in all areas.

Myrtle Beach Police provided News 13 with a list of violations bikers should avoid:

Alcohol consumption is illegal in parking areas and public rights-of-way, misdemeanor, fine up to $500 and/or 30 days in jail.

No more than two motorcycles can be parked in a single public space, standard parking rates apply to both bikes.

Excessive noise from loud music, revving engines or spinning tires is considered a misdemeanor, fine up to $500 and/or 30 days in jail.

Myrtle Beach will also have more vehicles available to transport inmates to J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway.
