North Myrtle Beach will soon be home to the Grand Strands first axe throwing attraction.

The business was initially presented to the City of Myrtle Beach and denied last summer. However, the City of North Myrtle Beach approved the attraction because it will be located in a commercial zone, which allows for amusement and recreational opportunities.

News13 learned if this location is a success, owners want to open another axe throwing attraction in Surfside Beach. According to the City of North Myrtle Beach, the attraction may look to add a bar and restaurant.

Patrick Dowling, spokesperson for the City of North Myrtle Beach, says the attraction isn’t what you may be picturing.

“It’s not how most people think,” Dowling said. “You don’t just walk in and pick up an axe and start throwing it. It’s confined to a corridor that is wired off from other corridors so no one gets hurt.”

Doors are expected to open on February 2.
