Lumberton K-9 officer receives vest thanks to Groupon donations

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WBTW) – A Lumberton Police K-9 officer received a protective vest thanks to a donation raised by Groupon customers.

According to the department, Spike received the vest from Vested Interest, Inc. Groupon selected the non-profit as the beneficiary of its nationwide fundraising effort, which ultimately raised $335,000.

Groupon customers donated $10 at a time to contribute.

According to a press release, Vested Interest provides the vests in memory of Pittsburgh Police Department K-9 officer Rocco, who was killed while  working in 2014.
