Kara James is the News13 weekend evening meteorologist. She joined WBTW in June 2015 and comes to the Carolinas with 3 years of experience.
Before coming to News13, Kara was the weekday morning and noon meteorologist at WTVA in Tupelo, Mississippi. While there, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for team coverage of an EF-3 tornado in Shuqualak, Mississippi in 2013. Also in 2013, Kara became the first woman in the state of Mississippi to earn the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal from the American Meteorological Society. Kara’s first forecasting love is severe weather, but she is very excited to be in the Carolinas and experience the tropical weather here!
Kara has a Masters degree in Geosciences from Mississippi State University and Bachelor’s degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. As both a Sooner and MSU fan, she can often be found splitting time watching OU and MSU football in the fall.
When not at work, Kara enjoys spending time at home with her mini poodle Truffles, going to the beach, running, and exploring the Carolinas.
