LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – A large warehouse fire outside Lake City shutdown a highway Friday morning and the Florence Department of Public Safety says that road will remain closed through Saturday.
The fire was called in around 9 a.m. at the East Coast Erosion Blanket facility on SC 341, just outside the city limits of Lake City.
Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the 162,000 square foot building as firefighters arrived.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation closed the highway for emergency crews work the area.
As of this posting, no injuries were reported.
Numerous firefighting agencies responded for mutual aid.
American Red Cross disaster-trained volunteers are assisting emergency response crews at the scene of the fire. Volunteers are providing meals, snacks, and hydration to firefighters and other emergency responders from multiple departments at the respite center, located at Mount Claire Missionary Baptist Church in Lake City.
