LITTLE RIVER, SC (WBTW) – A Little River man is behind bars at J. Reuben Long Detention Center after police say he sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl.
According to the Horry County Police incident report, the unthinkable crime was reported to police in Sumter, SC, where the victim lives, and was forwarded to Horry County Police in early April as the crime reportedly occurred within Horry County.
The report states that beginning July 28, 2013 through March 28, 2014, Edward Allen Rutter, 28, would commit “criminal sexual conduct on the victim by penetrating her with his penis or finger.” The victim told police that the sexual crimes occurred when she visited Rutter during the eight month period.
The report goes on to state that Rutter also showed pornography to the victim.
Horry County Police note that Rutter committed the crimes while the victim was 8-years-old and continued until she was nine.
Horry County Police arrested Rutter Monday for criminal sexual conduct with a minor 1st degree, criminal sexual conduct with a minor 3rd degree, and disseminating obscene material to a minor (12 years or younger).
J. Reuben Long Detention Center online records indicate no bail has been set for Rutter. A court date is not yet known.
