CONWAY – Coastal Carolina made school history with its second consecutive appearance NCAA tournament last year. This summer the Chanticleers will make national history.

Coastal Carolina will travel to Cuba this August to take on the Cuban National Team, coach Cliff Ellis announced Tuesday. No other Division-I team has ever visited the country or played against its top team.

“For us to be the first team to travel to Cuba is a testament to our success over the past several years,” Ellis said. “We will rely on NCAA tournament experiences to play competitive basketball against the Cuban’s top-notch national team.”

The Chanticleers’ trip is from Aug. 6-14. They’ll play three games against the Cuban National Team. The games will serve as Cuba’s final preparation before heading to Mexico for the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament. Coastal Carolina coaches and players also will lead clinics, participate in community service and tour the country.
