LA GRANGE, N.C.– A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper was injured Sunday when another vehicle hit his patrol car on U.S. 70 near La Grange.
Lt. Jeff Gordon said in a statement that the wreck happened around 7:45 p.m. after the trooper was finishing up a previous crash investigation.
The patrol car was stationary with its emergency lights activated. Highway Patrol said a passenger vehicle failed to move over and hit the trooper’s car from behind.
The trooper was sitting inside the car at the time of the crash and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Highway Patrol said it was unclear if the driver of the other vehicle was injured.
Charges are pending against the driver, Highway Patrol said.
In 2002, the “Move Over” law was enacted, directing drivers to change lanes or slow down when passing a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights on the roadside. In the fall of 2012, the law was revised to include “public service” vehicles.
