The Department of Natural Resources held free boat inspections across the region to help keep people safe while out on the water this weekend.

Officials were out at Easterling Landing on Lake Robinson in which was a hot spot in the Pee Dee doing inspections.

DNR officers checked items like life vests, motor registration and other required safety equipment.

Officers say they do this each year to give those the opportunity to correct any problems before they get out on the water in their boats.

“It’s to help them make sure and to educate them to make sure that they know what they need to have prior to entering the water and getting inspected on the water. It’s different for them here as we can get it fixed,” said DNR First Sergeant Benjy Byers.

DNR officers also did inspections throughout Horry and Georgetown Counties Sunday.

Officers say the July 4th weekend is one of their busiest.
