CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Police say a woman overdosed on heroin and crashed while driving her 1-year-old child to the gas station.
Hannah Caroline Holmes, 24, of Conway, has been charged with driving under the influence, child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Conway Police Department report.
Police were called to the accident at 1:40 p.m. on Monday at Plantation Circle and Long Ave Extention. When police arrived, Holmes said she injected a dose of heroin into her arm before she left her house with her 1-year-old child, according to the officer’s report.
Holmes told the officer she fell asleep at the wheel on the way home from a gas station, according to the report.
The officer who worked the scene said Holmes crashed into a brick column near the intersection. She had “pin point pupils similar to a person under the influence of narcotics,” the officer said. The officer also said she had a needle on her and a visible track mark.
The child was in a child safety seat in the back, middle seat of the car, according to the report. No injuries were reported to the child and custody was transferred over to the grandmother, police said.
Holmes was released on $1,392 bond ($992 for the driving under the influence change and $400 for the child endangerment charge.)
