RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Capitol Police sergeant has been placed on paid administrative leave due to a possible violation of division policy.
The department’s decision comes after a group began blogging and tweeting about Sergeant Robert Stamm, raising concerns about social media posts and possible ties to white nationalist groups.
Colonel Anthony S. Pike declined to comment further, saying only that “there is a review policy in place, and we will follow that policy.”
8News went to Sgt. Stamm’s home to speak with him about the allegations.
“No comment,” he repeated when asked by 8News for an explanation.
Sgt. Stamm was placed on leave hours after a group began blogging and tweeting concerns about questionable social media posts. The group alleges the officer has an “affinity” for symbols associated with white nationalists, pointing out flags, tattoos and other insignias posted on social media accounts in his name.
8News checked a Facebook page in Sgt. Stamm’s name, before it was removed, and saw a symbol, which is connected to an organization that the Southern Poverty Law Center describes as a hate group.
Stamm has been with the division since September 2014, according to his LinkedIn page. He was promoted to sergeant in 2018.
