FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A woman has turned herself in to Florence police after an investigation into animal cruelty complaints.
Michelle Alston, 55, of Florence, was charged Friday with ill treatment of animals, first offence, after officers found three dogs in a backyard, one dead from its tether being entangled with a chain link fence.
Officers responded to a call at about 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday about a deceased dog at the 1400 block of Waverly Avenue. They found three dogs in the backyard, all of which they say “were deprived of adequate food and water.”
Animal control in Florence took custody of the dogs.
Alston was taken to the Florence County Detention Center. A judge set her bond at $2,500, her next court date is scheduled for May 9.
Ill treatment of animals, first offense, is a misdemeanor that carries up to 90 days in jail or up to a $1,000 fine.
