MYRTLE BEACH (SC) – A man told police he stole a U-Haul truck from Kentucky and drove it to Myrtle Beach so he and his wife could get a fresh start, according to an incident report.

Officers stopped the U-Haul truck on Kings Highway on Wednesday for a traffic stop and realized it had been reported stolen.

Andrew Wayne Roberts, 39, was arrested for possession of stolen vehicle $5,000 or more after being questioned by officers.

Roberts said he did not have a driver’s license, so he could not rent the truck, according to the report. He told police he went to the U-Haul place five days ago, noticed the keys were in the ignition and the door was unlocked, so he stole it.

Roberts said he wanted to move him and his wife to Myrtle Beach for a fresh start and told police his wife did not know that it was stolen, according to the incident report.

The wife told police she thought a friend rented the truck for them and did not know it was stolen.

Roberts remains in jail on $15,000.00 bond as of Friday afternoon.
